First Shore Experience

Day 4 Greenock Scotland

Someone leapt out of bed early saying it was 7am and we’d said breakfast at 7. Then I looked at my watch and saw it was actually 6am. Well at least we weren’t going to be late 😂

Breakfast in the Horizon, get ready and off we go. A very short wait to get off the boat and then - amazing!  We were greeted by a piper. What a lovely touch.

Then onto the coach. Our trip was Loch Lomond and Inveraray.

Our first stop was the very pretty village of Luss on the banks of Loch Lomond. We got a very welcome and very good coffee which we drank as we walked. Very envious of the number of swimmers in the Loch. Obviously the thing to do on a Sunday. The water didn’t feel much colder than our last dip in the sea in Portugal.

On the way to Inveraray we stopped off at a most beautiful viewing point near Cairndow. Then on into the town past the original Loch Fyne restaurant. Inveraray is small but very pretty. We had a wonderful lunch in a small cafe and then a wander around picking up some small souvenirs.

Then we headed to Inveraray Castle, the seat of the Dukes of Argyle. It’s not huge but it’s in a wonderful setting and the interior is interesting. Very enjoyable.

Then onto the coach back to the port, taking the shorter route of a ferry over the River Clyde.

Overall a great trip. Eleanor our guide was fun and informative and Jason, our driver negotiated some very small roads.

Back in our cabin and tired.

A short rest then out on deck to the Pennant Bar to watch us casting off. And guess what!  This time we even had a pipe and drum band to see us off. Just a shame it was typical Scottish weather and piddling it down. We could shelter, they poor people were taking the full brunt of it.
