Day 21
Once more dinner in Alexandria but with a g&t in the cabin beforehand.
Dinner last night was something else! I haven’t laughed like that since - well a few nights ago! It all started half way through the meal when Janet asked whether anyone else had had two small men coming into their cabin. Well you can imagine, it just went downhill from there. Janet acted as a perfect foil to Steve. At no time did it sink too low but we were all absolutely crying with laughter and could barely finish our meals. I’ve no idea what we ate.
After dinner Donna and John opted for an early night so Steve, Di, Janet and myself headed to the Curzon to see Owen James as Sting. He was excellent. At first I thought he was in a different key to Sting but he probably wasn’t and he just got better. He is much younger than Sting but does have a slight look of him and he has the hair. He sang a wide range of his hits and it was a very enjoyable show.
Each of the acts on the ship are flown in for a short period on board to do a couple of shows. Most are regular performers on various cruise ships. Some have entertainment backgrounds and some, like Owen, have normal careers. Owen is a music teacher and takes off in the holidays to become Sting. He also has a band in the UK called The Rozzers and they do tribute concerts around the country.
Today we are at sea and following such a hectic schedule over the last few weeks it’s rather nice to do absolutely nothing all day. The weather is good and the sea is calm.
I couldn’t be asked to get up in time for yoga so it was coffee in bed again and then breakfast in the Horizon. We were so late I wasn’t even in time for the watercolour class. So we just had another coffee on deck 12 looking out to sea. I put some washing on so a bit of time was spent in the cabin on the balcony in between washing and drying.
We spent most of the day mooching about, reading our books, booking another cruise, doing puzzles, that sort of thing, with a break for lunch in Horizon.
Dinner tonight is another posh one.
Another good night! We all went to the Curzon after dinner to watch the Headliners in a tribute to musicals. Until they did Les Mis at the end we didn’t know many of the shows but they were still brilliant. And then they did Les Mis and were utterly outstanding. All of them deserve to be in the West End if that’s what they would like. They are better than many we have seen. Congratulations to all of them.
After the show I broke a habit of a lifetime and stayed up 😂. We went upstairs to the Horizon for a nightcap. On the way we took loads of lovely photos on the stairs. As we were taking them a loud South African voice said how lovely we all looked. It was him! It was him! The guy that Steve had talked to that time when he got the ice and the one who had sat next to us at breakfast. I looked round at the others pointing and nudging - was it “the missing man”? No it wasn’t. They were all categoric about that. So half the mystery solved - “our” South African wasn’t the “missing man” but we had still never met him 😂
Di and Janet’s nightcap was a Horlick’s, ours was a glass of wine. A good laugh once more remembering our lovely holiday.
And then to bed - via another nightcap on our balcony. 🤪
