Day 12
Last night the clocks went forwards 1 hour. We both slept well and then headed to breakfast in the Horizon around 8am. I then went to yoga at 9.00. I walked outside and nearly froze to death. I wasn’t kitted out for an Arctic experience 😂. I haven’t said much about yoga so far except for my inability to balance on a ship. I’m glad I’m doing it but the teachers have learnt the routine rather than being yoga teachers so it is a little formulaic but it does the job. The two guys who take it in turns to lead the class are the personal trainers on board so they cover everything fitness related. There were two people at my first yoga class, myself and a lady who normally does chair yoga so that must have been hard for the teacher and as I said, that was the one where I felt a little queasy. At the next lesson there were two of us again, myself and a lovely lady called Debbie. Today no one else but me turned up so I had my own personal lesson. I’m getting better at balancing but I still find it quite difficult. I should also say that relaxation isn’t! The classes are held in the gym so when you are on a wooden floor with running machines behind you and whatever else around. It’s hard to relax when the pounding on the machines go right through you. But whatever, I enjoyed the class.
Afterwards I went to another watercolour class. There were far fewer people. I think some overslept because of the hour change. However it meant that I had a better seat closer to the teacher, who is really lovely by the way. I saw the “real artist” but didn’t speak to him or look at his latest update. Today’s subject was considerably harder than the puffin or humming bird of the previous lessons. It was an Icelandic village. I found it very hard and it takes a lot of time so I will finish it at the next class.
The watercolour lessons are in the Crows Nest so Steve came up and we had a coffee together there after my lesson.
In the meanwhile Steve had been walking on the Promenade Deck 7. Again he did his 10 laps which works out at 5km and took an hour.
I then went to Reception to sort out another wine package. We have decided that we made a good decision not to take any of the drinks packages which include coffee, sodas and beer as well a wine by the glass. We would not have made good enough use of that. But we do think the wine package, which is only for bottles of wine, is very good value and works for us. I also had to sort out the duty return on the Icelandic sweater I bought.
By then it was time for a light lunch in Horizon - Steve only had consommé. He did have cheese after but still very impressive. I had a salad.
Then in the afternoon we chilled. Steve went to get information on booking the next cruise whilst on board and what sort of deal you got - he’s keen!
At 4pm I went to Pilates which as I said before, is really hard. It’s taken by the same two guys in turns and a few more people attend but it’s still not busy. Still a bit formulaic but as it’s so hard that doesn’t matter. It definitely raised a sweat. They use weighted balls, a roller and a circular “thing” which you have to push together either with your hands or feet and it’s very firm. A good class.
Afterwards we dressed in our Arctic gear and walked round the top deck which is a bit more blowy. We picked up a couple of bats and a ball and tried to play tennis but neither of us could see the ball so we stopped pretty promptly. We then decided on a beer at the Pennant Bar at the back of the boat.
It really is something else to be able to look in any direction and not see land or any other craft, just birds. It’s very peaceful.
Dinner tonight was at the Beach House. Steve had buffalo wings and I had mushrooms in a cheese and spinach sauce to start. Both of which were very nice. Then we both had Atlantic cod which again was nice but not a patch on what we had yesterday. We finished with two sweet and sickly pudding which were nevertheless very nice.
After dinner we went to watch Mandy Muden, a comic magician, in Carmens which was rammed. So we stood by the bar and ordered a red wine and a sherry. The show was only 45 mins so it wasn’t a problem and it was very funny and very clever.
Then back to the cabin for a nightcap on the balcony - well ok a drink in the freezing cold late daylight. We can’t believe it’s 35 degrees in the uk today. Maybe they mean Fahrenheit cos that’s what it feels like here. Actually that’s not fair. It’s cold but nowhere near freezing.
The clocks go forwards an hour again tonight so another early night is in order.
