Day at Sea

Day 5

Dinner last night was in the Alexandria restaurant again and was fine. We had a glass of wine in our cabin before dinner. We both had the duck terrine to start which was delicious and then Steve had slow cooked pork belly and I had steak, followed by lemon compote with rhubarb gel for steve and cheese for me. All finished off with a drink in the Crows Nest. I couldn’t keep my eyes open (where’s the surprise there 🤪). So I went to bed and Steve had a bit of a wander.

Today we had a very lazy day. There wasn’t really anything in particular that we fancied. So Steve got us a coffee which we drank in bed. Then breakfast in the Horizon again. Afterwards we went back to the cabin. There was a weather warning of a storm approaching and notification that the shop might be “wobbly” again. I’ve found that I get seasick in the cabin if I’m not lying down. So we went on deck. I felt too queasy to walk but Steve did an hour of quick walking - 10 times round the ship which is 3 miles. I sat on deck and recovered quickly. So I enjoyed reading my book looking out to sea. When Steve got back we picked up another coffee and had that back on deck. It’s midday now and the storm hasn’t arrived, it’s sunny and relatively calm. But the Captain has just announced that the storm is still coming and that conditions will deteriorate this afternoon and through the evening. So let’s see. It’s supposed to be a formal dress night tonight but if we are rocking and rolling I’m not sure.

Yep!  Rocking and rolling as promised. We both stayed in the cabin all afternoon and I felt rubbish. We were never hit directly by the storm but the seas were big and the winds strong. I wasn’t sure I wanted to go out in the evening but we both got all dressed up and went to dinner. Oh forgot to mention - there was a special offer on gin today so we bought some for the cabin. Steve had one before we went out but I couldn’t face it. Nor could I face the Captain’s party before dinner (I don’t think we missed much except his suggestion that we all strap ourselves in for the night).

Back to Alexandria for dinner - again I didn’t drink - I must have felt rough 🤪. I didn’t have much to eat either but enjoyed the mango sorbet at the end. Steve had salmon ceviche to start which he said was outstanding. Then steak which left a bit to be desired and then tarte tartin which was good.

I felt better during dinner (sitting down again) and so we braved the show in the theatre. The Lavelles - 3 ladies singing Motown. Their voices were exceptional and the backing ok. They sang a range of songs, all of which Steve knew and I knew a plenty. So all in all very enjoyable but quite short.

Then back to the cabin with the unfinished bottle of wine - dress up warmly and out onto our balcony. The rain has stopped and I think the wind has dropped a bit but the seas are still huge. I’m fine on the balcony but still no wine - so an alcohol free day - I didn’t see that one coming 😂.
